The right combination of tools and equipment can make the almost
impossible job easy. We have invested extensively into tooling
and equipment to improve quality and efficiency. I feel this is
where we have an advantage over most shops. Our tools include
four pneumatic rivet squeezers, eight air drills of different
speeds and sizes, two 90 degree threaded drills, two rivet shavers,
24 inch throat compression riveter, metal lathe, vertical mill,
power hack saw and a surface grinder. We use rivet squeezers whenever
possible. This reduces stress on the component as well as producing
a high level of uniformity. They are also fast. When driving rivets
we use the correct size rivet gun (2x 3x 4x) for the application.
This also reduces stress on the component and produces better
results. Cherry max are only used as a last resort. Our rule of
thumb is, "If the factory didn't use them, then we don't."
If I need a bucking bar, I take the time to make it, even if it
is for one rivet, because I know I will need it later. Having
our own machine shop and machinist is wonderful. Chuck does some
amazing things with these tools. From making bucking bars to building
jigs and fixtures and special tools.
